Rashes
Rashes are more than just skin irritations; they are typically the body's way of indicating an imbalance. An accurate diagnosis is crucial for successful treatment because "rash" is a general phrase that can refer to anything from a basic allergic reaction to advanced systemic conditions. Contact Dermatitis
An itchy rash caused by direct contact with a substance or an allergic reaction to it. Substances such as cosmetics, fragrances, jewelry and plants can cause this reaction.
Pityriasis Rosea
A rash that often begins as an oval spot ("herald patch") followed by smaller spots across the torso.
Hives (Urticaria)
Itchy, raised bumps or welts on your skin. They are often random, without a known cause. Triggers could include heat, cold, physical pressure, stress, and allergic reaction.
Seborrheic Dermatitis
A common condition that mainly affects your scalp. It causes scaly patches, inflamed skin and stubborn dandruff. It usually affects oily areas of the body, such as the face, nose, eyebrows, ears, eyelids and chest.
Fungal & Bacterial Infections
Rashes caused by organisms like ringworm (tinea) or impetigo, which require specific anti-infective treatments.
Most rashes, such as eczema and contact dermatitis, are not contagious. However, rashes caused by viruses, bacteria, or fungi (like shingles or ringworm) can be spread to others. Dr. Yoo will provide guidance on how to protect others while you heal.
You should schedule an appointment if a rash is spreading rapidly, is painful or blistering, is accompanied by a fever, or does not improve with basic over-the-counter care. Rashes that interfere with your sleep or daily activities also require professional evaluation.
